  What Are Metabolic Circuits? Metabolic Circuits are short, intense, FUN, fast-paced workouts designed to increase fat loss and improve energy. The purpose of metabolic conditioning is to maximize the efficiency of a particular energy system to perform better in sports or develop your desired physique. One added benefit is the increase of caloric burn even after the workout is finished. Such a high-intensity during the session increases EPOC and leads to a higher resting metabolism for the next few hours. In a new study published in the American Journal of Physiology, scientists found that 30-minute workouts resulted in the same amount of weight loss as 60-minute workouts. At the end of 13 weeks, the 30-minute workout group lost 8.8 pounds of fat, while the 60-minute workout group lost 8.4 pounds…only slightly less, of course, but still…you’d expect MORE fat loss if you trained TWICE as long, right? Strange, isn’t it? In fact, the scientists couldn’t even explain these disappointing results from the longer workouts. But they DO know that there is some type of compensation that occurs giving you LESS results from LONGER workouts.

That clearly makes 60 minute workouts WORSE and less efficient than 30-minute workouts.  At least in my opinion.

Bizarro workout world, I agree. But bottom line… Long 60-minute workouts aren’t necessary. And worse, long workouts probably lead to more overuse injury.
